Prof. Neri currently serves as Clinical Full Professor of Ophthalmology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, where he plays an active role in medical education and academic governance. At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he is Director of the Uveitis Service and Senior Advisor for Physician and Patient Experience, having previously served as Executive Medical Director of the Patient Experience Department.
He is currently Editor-in-Chief of International Ophthalmology and Associate Editor of Ocular Immunology & Inflammation, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection. Prof. Neri has authored more than 190 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with a publication record that reflects his core interests in translational immunology, autoimmune disease mechanisms, and evidence-based treatment algorithms.
He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Ancona Medical School in 2000, obtained a specialist diploma in ophthalmology from the Polytechnic University of Marche in 2004, and earned a PhD in neuroscience in 2007 with a dissertation focused on immunosuppressive therapy in ocular inflammation. In 2023, he completed an MBA with high honors at Boston University Questrom School of Business and was inducted into both the Beta Gamma Sigma and Sigma Xi honor societies for academic excellence and research distinction.
His earlier tenure at Ospedali Riuniti di Ancona included directing the Ocular Immunology Unit from 2007 to 2018, where he developed one of Italy’s foremost tertiary referral centers for intraocular inflammation. During this period, he was also Assistant and then Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Polytechnic University of Marche, mentoring generations of medical students, residents, and doctoral candidates. .
Prof. Neri has also been actively involved in shaping health policy and drug regulation, having served for a decade as a board member of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), where he contributed to the Committee for Human Medicinal Products (CHMP).
